We've received so much interest and feedback to the VIBF 2010 Festival,
we wanted to share the information with performers and producers everywhere.

Q: What the heck is the VIBFA?
A: The VIBFA stands for The Vancouver International Burlesque Festival Association. We are a not-for-profit society that is maintained by a board of directors elected annually by popular vote of the society’s members. The society’s directive is:
- To create and administrate an annual Vancouver International Burlesque Festival
- To encourage the co-operation of Vancouver burlesque companies, producers, and performers, and to foster communication amongst these groups.
- To provide resources for the advocacy of Vancouver burlesque performers, venues and companies.
- To promote the public profile of burlesque in Vancouver
Q: What if I’m accepted?
A: If you are accepted as a Performer, you will be given a performance slot in one of the Festival-produced showcases, and a monetary honorarium based on a split of that evening’s ticket sales. You will also be issued a non-transferrable pass that entitles you entrance to all official VIBFA shows at the Rickshaw Theatre. Sorry, no guest comps.
If you are accepted as a Producer, you will be given the venue for that time slot(s), including full professional lights and sound, access to the movie screen for projections, house and box office staff, festival promotion and support and shared dressing room space. You will also receive a financial split of that evening’s gross ticket sales (based on the chart on the Producer page) to do with as you wish. (ie, distribute among your performers, re-invest in your company, etc.) Your final payment will be returned to you via cheque or paypal no later than three weeks following the close of the festival.
Q: What if I’m an out of town performer or producer?
A: If you are selected to perform in the festival, you will be sent a Welcome Packet with lots of great maps and information to help you navigate the beautiful city of Vancouver. Our Performer Liason will be in contact with all selected out-of-towners to assist them with any additional questions not covered in the Welcome Packet. A special VIBF hotel rate will be available, and assistance will be given in partnering out of town performers for room sharing, if desired. Don’t forget, Vancouver is in Canada, so you need a valid Passport to enter the country!
Q: What if I’m a Producer with a show, but I need more performers or a host?
A: The Festival Performer list will be made available to all producers. You will be able to contact performers and hosts to help cast your show.
Q: Is there a time limit on performances?
A: Yes.
In fairness to all performers, and to be able to host as many performers as possible, the VIBF will implement a limit of FIVE MINUTES in length.
Q: Are there any content restrictions on performances?
A: Yes. Vancouver law does not allow full nudity or exposed nipples. Tassels or not, please make sure that within your final reveal, your nipples are completely covered by some kind of pasties or a thick layer of latex and glitter (just glitter or makeup is not enough). You must wear at least a mirkin or g-string. Full frontal nudity or full toplessness cannot be permitted.
While the VIBFA does not wish to dictate the content of any performance, we must remind everyone and require that the stage must be left clean, dry and safe for the next performer(s). There will NOT be time for any involved stage cleaning between numbers or time slots. Please respect other performers and productions in the same way you wish to be respected. Please plan all performances and props to be quickly set-up and quickly cleaned-up. THANK YOU for your understanding and cooperation!
Q: What if I’m not a member of the VIBFA?
A: If you would like to become a member, you may do so online here.
Annual membership is $10.
Q: What if I want to teach a class or a workshop?
A: Please contact us outlining your interest to vibf2010@hotmail.com and an education coordinator will contact you very soon to assist you!
Q: Can I reserve seats at Festival shows?
A: Seating for all festival shows is general admission in the Rickshaw’s theatre-style padded seating. However, a limited amount of VIBFA-sponsored cabaret-style table seating will soon be available for reservations.
Q: If I’m a producer, how do I promote my show?
A: As a Producer, your show will be listed as being a part of the Festival in all press and marketing. However, specific promotions for each show will be at the discretion of each Producer (ie posters, fliers, additional internet marketing, etc.) An official VIBF poster and handbill template will be provided to you for your use. We require that all producers use this template in their individual promotions to guarantee festival unity and branding. You will also have access to printing discounts through our print sponsor. This information will be included in your Producer’s packet upon acceptance in the festival.
Thank You!
